It all started when…
I started my animal career in the horse industry as a professional groom back in 2008. I worked across North America at the top level of the sport for a few years, until I decided the travelling grooms lifestyle just wasn't for me. In 2013 I decided to branch out and entered the world of professional dog training. I spent almost four years at the Calgary Humane Society honing my skills teaching people and assessing dogs. I acquired a broad range of skills and experience through the organization, teaching kids camps, and training classes, community out reach and behaviour support for a wide range of animal species. My primary focus was understanding and assessing canines and canine communication through dog to dog assessments and temperament testing, training and enrichment. I developed a passion for understanding our four legged friends and a desire to share my knowledge and skills with loving owners.
I know that training and behaviour change can happen with out the use of force. I have dedicated myself to continuing my education in order to improve my methods and communication for both human and animal. Behaviour change can and does happen with out the use of fear, intimidation or physical punishment. My methods are based in science and learning theory. I have obtained two internationally recognized training certifications and continue to educate myself through conferences, seminars and courses. I will soon be a certified T-Touch practitioner as well. It is through education that we better ourselves and those around us.
I have since left the shelter world and am now the Head of Training at Chasin' Tails Dog Care Centre. Through the facility we offer group classes, day training opportunities and private consultations at the facility, while I continue to offer in home and on location training services to those who desire a more intimate approach, have variable schedules, travel restrictions, or just prefer to learn in the comfort of their own home.
IN HOME CONSULTATIONS
WHEN THE CLASSROOM WON'T DO, LET ME COME TO YOU
By taking a wholistic approach to behaviour change, we look at your animal as a whole to ensure they are happy and healthy mentally, physically and emotionally. I will provide you with solid understanding in the science of learning and a dedication to providing the most humane methods of training. I avoid the use of fear, intimidation and physical punishment in training so that you can develop or maintain a wonderful relationship with your pet.
While a lot of behaviours can be successfully treated in a classroom environment, sometimes its not in the animals best interest. Maybe your schedule is based in shift work and doesn't allow you to attend a weekly class at the same time each week. Through in home consultations we can deal with a variety of behaviour concerns, including general manners, recall, walking nicely, reactivity, aggression and fear.
ON LOCATION CONSULTATIONS
WHEN YOUR PET HAS HOOVES, NOT PAWS...
The same principals of training apply to every living, multi celled organism, including horses. I choose the kindest way to help your equine partner through behaviour concerns.
"A good horseman can hear his horse speak to him. A great horseman can hear his horse whisper."~ Author Unknown
By taking a kind and gentle approach to behaviour change, you foster a relationship based in trust and a willingness to work together. Through the science of learning I can help you solve a variety of issues, such as not standing for the farrier or to be mounted, being hard to catch, unwillingness to load and general ground manners.
BOOKING THE TRAINING TO SUIT YOUR NEEDS
